'Trail and Errrorrr' was an exhibition of 'works in progress', in which we at 'WaitingSnake Studios' invited seven artists to present their ongoing projects. The exhibition aimed to create a playground for new ideas, using the exhibition format as a testing ground for previously unseen performances, workshop trials, readings, technical experiments, and physically ongoing projects, In the months preceding the exhibition, we conducted feedback sessions and conversations with participating artists; sharing insights, ideas and try-outs of works in progress. These feedback sessions became central to the curation of the exhibition.
Participating artists were selected through an open call, on the basis of how they felt they could use our exhibition as a ground for more in depth research within their ongoing works, and how they would feel the ongoing critical reflection could help them in this process.
The exhibition aimed to contribute support that is often missing for emerging artists and to fill a gap that is left after leaving the art academy, particularly of artistic discussion, theoretical insight and critical reflection. Through 'Trial and Errrorrr' we attempted to create a safe and collaborative space; a play for project development and experimentation whilst escaping preconceptions of what an exhibition should be.
Exhibiting artists: Beatrice Cera, Eilit Marom, Maitiú Mac Cárthaigh, Mar Fu Qi, Nienke Roth, Rosa van Walbeek and Valerio Conti.
The exhibition program included a combination of workshops and performances led by different participating artists.
'Trial and Errrorrr' was curated by 'WaitingSnake Studios', a curator duo based in The Hague run by Clara Sharell and myself. Our central goal is to build a supportive network of emerging artists, for and with each other, and create a new community in an art world that can be difficult to enter alone.
