An exhibition curated an organised by Emily Stevenhagen and Clara Sharell (WaitingSnake Studios)
Het Nationale Theater, Den Haag (Sept, 2024).
This exhibition brought together young artists based in The Hague, who met working in the horeca team at Het Nationale Theater (In its 3 locations). Seven up-and-coming artists displayed their photographs, films, performances, and installation works and more on the walls around the foyer of one of the theaters locations 'Theater aan het Spui'. For the duration of six months, this exhibition showcased the creative background of people who serve the public everyday, within the framework of the building where they met, and spend much of their time.
Participating artists: Sonya Usamskaia, Ira Grünberger, Bjarte Wildeman, Tinka Kovacic, Peter Pflügler, Enrico Carpi and Madelief Severin.
As part of the exhibition opening, we hosted a panel discussion together with some of the participating artists, discussing the overall topic of 'Artists work in Horeca' and the struggles this attempts to shine light on. There was also a lecture by Peter Pflügler about his project ' Now is not the right time', and a film screening of Tinka Kovacic's film 'Zadnja Ura (The Last Hour)'. The exhibition was also accompanied by a performance program during the course of its being open, which included the performance of Bjarte Wildeman 'tens:ding (bending over backwards)' at Zaal 3, and a walk and lecture held by Sonya Usamskaia about her project 'Concrete Echoes'.

More about 'Artists work in Horeca':
Our series of exhibitions, ‘Artists work in Horeca’, attempts to shine light on the combined work lives of young emerging artists, where artists often work in Horeca of cultural institutions to support themselves and their practices. We work together with different theatres displaying the work artists from their front-of-house team in a curated exhibition that uses the walls of their foyers. With this theme we aim to bring attention to the creative backgrounds of front-of-house staff who serve the public every day, within the framework of the building itself
